![]() Not only does Velkhana breathe supercooled water out of its mouth, but it also secretes that water from the gaps between its scales. Often called the Iceborne Wyvern, Velkhana uses this special ore to control the supercooled water inside of its body, and it's capable of breathing said water out of its mouth, rapidly freezing any objects or creatures caught within the blast. These blue shards on its body are a kind of ore that is similar to volcanic glass, which Velkhana uses to control its legendary icy abilities. Although countless scales adorn Velkhana's entire body, the blue ones on its body aren't actually scales. Rather than using its claws, Velkhana primarily uses its spear-like tail in combat against threats, impaling its foes multiple times with great speed and precision. Velkhana's hook-like claws are used to grip the icy floor of its habitat, preventing Velkhana from slipping on the ice and snow that litters its turf. Unlike other elder dragons, Velkhana rarely ever uses its claws in combat since they play an important role in its movements. At the very tip of its wings is a small amount of fat that allows cold air to enter its body and, much like waterfowl, it uses countercurrent heat exchange to keep itself warm in such environments, losing little heat in the process. Covering Velkhana's entire body is overlapping feather-like scales that one might immediately think is how Velkhana keeps itself warm in the cold environments it inhabits, but that isn't the case. Velkhana's wings are massive, estimated to be about twenty meters long, and these extra limbs aid it in its flight. Velkhana has the same basic shape as most other elder dragons: four legs and two wings on its back. The only monsters that can challenge and potentially kill a Velkhana are Elder Dragon-Level Monsters like Savage Deviljho and Rajang, or Elder Dragons like Kushala Daora, Lunastra, and Ruiner Nergigante. Like other elder dragons, Velkhana is extremely high in the food chain, although its diet is currently unknown. It's believed that another reason why Velkhana mainly lives in cold mountainous environments is that it rides the wind currents found there to aid in its flight. Velkhana can normally be found in cold mountainous habitats like the Hoarfrost Reach, where it's secluded and hidden from most other creatures, but has also been seen in the Ancient Forest, Wildspire Waste, Coral Highlands, Rotten Vale, and Elder's Recess within the New World. The newly awakened Shara Ishvalda disturbed its natural habitat in the Hinterlands, causing it to go the New World in search of a special kind of ore that it uses for itself. Velkhana was thought to be a mere myth until one was spotted flying with a flock of Legiana during the mysterious Legiana Migration. A legendary Elder Dragon that commands the cold, Velkhana is a graceful monster with unprecedented powers. ![]()
